Swim like a fish
If you feel more at home in the water, here are some ideas for turning your swimming skills into sponsorship for Nordoff Robbins.
How many lengths?
If there’s a swimming pool near you, set yourself a sponsored swimming challenge. Ask for sponsorship to swim a particular distance – for example one hundred lengths - within a certain amount of time. Or organise a sponsored swim-a-thon with a group of friends and contact the local pool to see if they will help turn it into a larger fundraising event.
Different strokes
Create a sponsored event that includes different legs using different swimming strokes. For example 10 lengths breast stroke, 10 lengths backstroke, 10 lengths butterfly, 10 lengths front crawl. Why not enlist 3 friends to take on a leg each?
Swim the channel
Need a holiday in France? Why not consider organising a sponsored swim across the channel? The Channel Swimming Association governs all attempts to undertake this fantastic challenge and you’ll need to contact them before jumping in the water. They can provide you with all the information and advice you will need.
Run, swim, bike
If you’d like to combine your swimming, with running or cycling, then a triathlon could be for you as this combines all three disciplines in one race (usually a swim followed by a cycle then a run). The British Triathlon Federation or www.trifinder.co.uk can help you find an organised event or club near you.
Find an event
Visit our Find an Event page for details on finding an organised swimming event near you.
Drum up support
Invite friends, family and colleagues to join you in your challenge and build the excitement. The more people that take part, the more funds you will raise and the more fun you will have as you train and take part together. Set up a Just Giving Page to gather sponsorship and use your social networks to promote your event and link to Nordoff Robbins using Facebook, Twitter, Blogs, email, websites etc. Use our sample press release on the resources page to contact your local press to tell them about what you’re doing.
Enjoy your event and swim like a fish!
