Rachel Verney
Director of Music Services
Rachel was a piano student at the Royal College of Music in 1971 when she met Paul Nordoff and Clive Robbins and heard them talking about their work. It was clear to her that this was the most important work for a musician today and she knew instinctively it was what she had to do.
Rachel trained with Paul and Clive on the first full-time Nordoff Robbins training course in the UK in 1975. She has been involved closely with the spread of Nordoff Robbins music therapy ever since, working as a music therapist with people of all ages in a multitude of different medical, social care, education and community settings both in the UK and abroad. Over 35 years Rachel has both set up and taught on training courses where musicians of many different sorts from all over the world have learnt how to be music therapists.
Today Rachel continues to train music therapists, supervise and mentor music therapists working in the field. In her current role as Director of Music Services for Nordoff Robbins she is responsible for the development of Nordoff Robbins music services nationally. This includes Music Therapy, Music and Health and the soon to be developed Specialist Music Teaching service.
Rachel is a practising musician, actively involved with participatory and amateur music events at an Arts Centre in Buckinghamshire where she lives. She has 3 children.
