How we fundraise

Our income is not guaranteed and we need to raise almost £3 million from scratch every year to continue to operate. To do this we need to rely on the goodwill of those who love music and want to give something back by supporting our work.

Our first fundraising event was the Silver Clef Lunch in 1976, raising £12,000. By the time of its 30th anniversary the event was raising well over £500,000 a year for the charity and has honoured musicians from Coldplay and the Kaiser Chiefs to the Who and U2.

The generous support of corporate sponsors has given rise to other events in the Nordoff-Robbins fund-raising calendar.

The HMV Football Extravaganza started in 1996, using the same format of high-profile awards and an auction as the Silver Clef Lunch; it now rivals the Silver Clef Lunch in terms of how much it provides for us by annually raises over £500,000. A host of footballers and managers have been honoured at the event, including Brian Clough, Alex Ferguson, Tony Adams, Teddy Sheringham and Alan Shearer.

Other events include the Sandown Park Race Day, the Six Nations Rugby Championship Dinner, the Women of the Year Awards, the Christmas Carol Service and the Music Industry Trusts Dinner.

We are keen to ensure that as much of the money we receive goes directly to helping children and adults who have been isolated by disability, trauma or illness. Therefore, for every £1 we collect through fundraising, 85p goes towards music therapy.

We are always exploring other avenues of raising the funds we need to continue work. Find out more about how you could help us, or get in touch if you have an idea that you would like to share with us.

Our dedicated Fundraising Team is headed by Audrey Hoare, the Director of Fundraising, and also includes Nicky Weller, Rachel Wilmott and Gemma Fleet.

Their work is overseen by the Fundraising Committee. These individuals volunteer their time and expertise to help us meet our fundraising targets and we are very grateful for their continuing support.
