About Nordoff Robbins

Nordoff Robbins is the largest charity in the UK specialising in the transformative and communicative power of music. We provide and support a range of specialist services that encompass the depth and breadth of music, comprising music therapy services, music and health projects, and community music projects. Nordoff Robbins practitioners provide services in arts, health, education and social care sectors, working with people of all ages who are in need, from the cradle to the grave.

For over 50 years, the name of Nordoff Robbins has been widely respected as the benchmark for using music to improve health and wellbeing. Founded on the principles of the pioneering music therapy work of American pianist and composer, Paul Nordoff (1909-77) and British educationalist Clive Robbins (b.1927), Nordoff Robbins today is a national UK charity (no. 280960) with sister organisations in several other parts of the world.

The three interweaving core objects of our charity – services, education, research – enable us to provide services of the highest quality. Nordoff Robbins practitioners receive comprehensive, Masters-level training to meet the unique needs of every individual they work with. They work to nurture the whole person and build physical, mental, emotional and social wellbeing. Decades of experience are woven into our training programmes. All our learning is integrated into our ongoing training of professionals and students to meet the demand for services that are relevant to today’s needs.

Nordoff Robbins services are supported by the research we carry out to demonstrate the power of music to transform lives. In return, our practice contributes towards this expanding evidence base.

Nordoff Robbins receives no statutory funding and is completely reliant on the generosity of individual and corporate support. We are grateful for all who have contributed to and supported the development of the charity and its work.

Our sister charity Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy in Scotland provides access to, and develops awareness of, music therapy across Scotland. It is closely involved in the delivery of the Nordoff Robbins Masters degree training programme at Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh.

Nordoff Robbins practitioners are active in many countries throughout the world, including USA, Australia, Europe, South Africa and the Far East. There are Nordoff Robbins training programmes in New York, Germany and Sydney. Our Links page provides details of Nordoff Robbins organisations worldwide.
