One Direction win Best Live Act 2013
We are thrilled to announce today that the winner of this year’s Best Live Act Award is One Direction!
Harry Styles from One Direction says: “Thanks to everyone who voted for us to win the Nordoff Robbins Best Live Act 2013. We are over the moon. Congratulations to Nordoff Robbins on another amazing Silver Clef Awards. What an incredible charity, helping people with music therapy.”
Best Live Act is the only one of the ten awards given out at the O2 Silver Clef Awards which is voted for by the public, who were asked to vote for their favourite artist from a Top 30 shortlist provided by Ticketmaster UK, based on the top rated and reviewed shows on their website. The month-long vote, in association with Ticketmaster and supported by O2, Spotify and the London Evening Standard, received over 26,000 unique votes and on several occasions caused a flurry of activity on social media. One Direction took just over a quarter of all votes.
The Best Live Act is the last remaining award to be announced for the 2013 O2 Silver Clef Awards today (Friday 28 June). Introduced to the ceremony in 2011, it is also the newest of the 10 awards given out on the day. Paul McCartney was the first winner and McFly won in 2012. One Direction are the global phenomenon that were catapulted into the spotlight on the X Factor in 2010. Since then, the band have had unimaginable success, breaking records, topping the charts across the globe and are currently traveling the world with their much praised Take Me Home Tour.
Chris Edmonds, chairman of Ticketmaster UK, commented, “One Direction really is the biggest band out there at the moment, having had their very successful tour last year. It's great to hear from our customers which band they thought was the Best Live Act of the last 12 months and clearly One Direction really won their fans over taking just over a quarter of all votes. This will get fans even more excited for their huge 'Where We Are' Stadium Tour taking place next year. Congratulations to the boys!"
