Volunteer
There are many ways that you can volunteer your services to help us, below are a few ideas, but you can contact us if you have anything else in mind.
Professional volunteering
In order to ensure that as much money raised goes towards music therapy we rely on the goodwill of professionals volunteering their services to us.
We have had very valuable support from the music business in this capacity, as well as from lawyers, accountants, designers and photographers.
If you would like to volunteer to work with us in this way then please contact us.
Organising an event
If you are kindly organising an event for Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy you may wish to consider some of the points below. Basically you need to ensure that you allow enough time for planning and keep in contact with us with what you are doing so that we may help.
How can we help?
Please let us know what you are planning by providing a simple outline of your event; we might be able to offer additional advice.
You might also like to ask for some of our fundraising materials:
- Easy to read leaflets summarising the work of Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy and including a donation form
- Collection boxes
- Our logo and brand guidelines
We can also advertise your event in the news section on our website.
Doing a Sponsored event
- If you are doing a sponsored event you will need to let as many people as you can to maximise sponsorship
- Why not set up an online blog, website or myspace page to let people know your progress with things like training. See www.myspace.com for more information or www.justgiving.com. We can help you by promoting your event on social networkign sites such as Facebook & Myspace.
- If you work for a large company or have friends that do see if they can email their colleagues to sponsor you.
- Get a sponsorship form from Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy.
- You can get special cards or flyers made to give to people you meet tellign them what you are doing. See www.moo.com
Cost
- Postage, printing, photocopying, hiring equipment, advertising... it all adds up. Try and get what you can supplied for free.
- Many companies will offer money or help in kind in exchange for their logo being associated with your event eg. On the flyers or in the event brochure. Consider the market of your event and what companies may be interested in being involved. For example a music retailer may want to help sponsor a gig.
- Manpower can be expensive. Can you get friends to help for free?
- Many venue managers will let you use their venue so long as they keep profits made from the bar. Look around for a venue. Don’t hire unless you really need to.
Income
- Tickets/entry fees, sponsorship, donations, sale of goods, refreshments...
- Maximise your income by getting goods and services for free and running a raffle or auction at your event
Permission
- If you plan to hold your event in a public place, you'll need to get permission from the police and your local authority (the council or metropolitan borough).
- If your event will involve more than two performers, you'll need a public entertainment licence. Please get in touch with your local authority for further information.
