Summer School for Music Therapists, Online, 20th – 23rd July 2020

Nordoff Robbins annual international summer school for music therapists will now be held online

Course Details

For many years, we have been holding a Summer School at our London Centre. The aim of our Summer School is to bring together working music therapists from around the world who wish to learn about the Nordoff Robbins approach. This way they can take some aspects of the Nordoff Robbins approach away with them and integrate into their work.

Due to COVID-19, we won’t be able to run our usual Summer School at the London Centre this year, and instead it will be run online.

We hope by bringing it online it will enable people to participate from home, and especially people for whom the costs of travelling to London and finding accommodation for a week was a barrier.

What does the Summer School include?

The Summer School will include:

  • Practical workshops in musical techniques and awareness
  • Sharing and discussion of participants’ own music therapy work (for which participants will need to bring recent recordings of their work)
  • Seminars discussing current developments in Nordoff Robbins music therapy and principles underlying the approach
  • Input on monitoring and evaluation techniques

All with a strong emphasis on practical music-making.

What do I need to participate?

If you’re a trained music therapist anywhere in the world (and that even includes the UK) you are welcome to join us for five days of learning, sharing and experiencing. You don’t need to have done any training in the Nordoff Robbins approach, but you should have a lively interest in musical intention, action and thinking within music therapy. You should also be open to sharing your work with others and prepared to have a go in workshops

What we will offer you.

We will offer you opportunities to experience something of the Nordoff Robbins approach to supervision in relation to your own work. We will try to work with you on extending the range of your own music-making skills, and we will provide information for you about what we do and how we do it.

We always aim for a supportive atmosphere which can be responsive to each person’s needs and interests, both during this week and beyond.

If you have any questions about the Summer School online please email Simon Procter. We look forward to welcoming you.
