Arsenal Foundation funds new centre music therapy room 17th May 2017 The Arsenal Foundation is very kindly supporting our work with children, young people and their families, who deal with some huge challenges in life – and for whom music therapy is a life-changing experience. The foundation has funded ‘The Arsenal Foundation Music Therapy Room’ as part of our London Centre refurbishment. Arsenal goalkeeper Petr Cech visited us and had an advanced preview of the facility earlier this May. He even had the chance to play the drums in the centre to appreciate the acoustics inside the newly-refurbished room. While here, Petr joined a music therapy session with our beneficiary Peter, to see first-hand how music therapy changes lives. Petr said, “I’m so impressed with the facility, but what’s so special is the work that’s done here with people facing unimaginable challenges in their lives. The music therapy sessions seem to offer a connection with the outside world for vulnerable people who can struggle with daily life. It offers a window of enjoyment.” As the country’s only purpose-built music therapy facility, the Centre serves Arsenal’s local communities, welcoming hundreds of people from Islington, Camden and Hackney, and those travelling in from further afield. Jo Carter, Director of Marketing, Fundraising and Communications added: “Thanks to The Arsenal Foundation’s support, vulnerable children and young people in north London will be able to access music therapy in our London Centre’s Arsenal Foundation Music Therapy Room; just like football, music can help children and young people with special needs reach their full potential. “Every day our music therapists and beneficiaries create some truly wonderful moments together which last long after a session. For our beneficiaries, our supporters, and our team, Arsenal’s backing, enthusiasm and contributions are invaluable.” Thanks to the Foundation’s support, we can support vulnerable and isolated children and young people, and give them access to high-quality music therapy in a welcoming, specially designed space.
