Legends of Football 4th October 2016 Tonight, footballing legends will come together for The Legends of Football to celebrate 25 years of the Premier League and honour the 25 footballers who make up the 100 club. Formerly known as The HMV Football Extravaganza, this event has helped us change countless lives through music therapy over the past 20 years having raised £7 million to date. It has celebrated the achievements and careers of some of the greatest footballers and managers in the beautiful game including John Charles, Sir Stanley Matthews, Brian Clough, Sir Bobby Robson, Sir Sir Alex Ferguson, Kenny Dalglish, Alan Shearer, Eric Cantona and Pelé, with David Beckham joining the Legends League in 2015 to mark the 20th Anniversary of the event. This year the Premier League celebrates its 25th season. Since kicking off in August 1992 there have been countless memorable moments provided by clubs at both ends of the table. From the Class of ’92 to Leicester City’s fairytale run in 2015/16, the goals, the title races and the unpredictable results have always kept the clubs’ fantastic fans coming back for more. There have been fantastic displays of skill in every position, but a special group of players hold the accolade of scoring a century of Premier League goals. These players will be honoured tonight for their outstanding achievement in making the past 25 seasons of the Premier League well worth watching. The event is massively supported by players and managers alike who attend each year and is referred to within the beautiful game as ‘the best charity dinner in the football calendar’. I always look forward to this event, it’s a cracking night out and for a really good cause too. It will also be good to catch up with some of the members of the “100 club” and discuss when we will host one for the 200 club! Alan Shearer We want to say a huge thank you to the Legends of Football for their continued support which has made an enormous difference to the lives of vulnerable children and adults across the UK.
