Samih playing guitar

2019 O2 Silver Clef Fan winner Samih fundraising for Nordoff Robbins

Our #LifeChangingMusic competition winner, Samih with his mum Taghreed, started their journey with us at the O2 Silver Clef Awards in July 2019. Samih was awarded the Silver Clef Fan Award and got to experience our annual event that recognises the powerful impact of music.

The day left a lasting impression on not only Samih, but he also left a lasting impression on some of our attending stars. One of those being our 2019 Silver Clef winner, Ed Sheeran, who gave Samih a guitar signed with the words – ‘’Samih, lots of love, play this guitar – Ed Sheeran’’.

When the UK went into lockdown in March due to the Covid-19 pandemic Samih was faced with his GCSEs being cancelled and dealing with isolation in his home. As lockdown continued, he felt a gaping hole in the absence of school and schoolwork. His mum Taghreed said, “He was beginning to feel down and I was concerned for his mental health.”

One-morning Samih began to strum his guitar and had the idea to set himself the challenge of learning to play at least one Ed Sheeran song for a good cause. He decided to fundraise for both Nordoff Robbins and Alzarah, the hospital where he was treated as a baby.

Samih said, “It feels good to wake up in the morning and have a goal.”. The fundraising challenge has given his days purpose and structure and saved him from a lockdown depression.

He has already raised 80% of his fundraising target for Nordoff Robbins and Alzarah – help him to complete his target and donate to his challenge!

On Friday 3 July 2020 at 4:30pm, Samih will livestream his challenge to play and sing an Ed Sheeran song on his Instagram. Join his livestream to watch him meet his challenge and celebrate this achievement with Samih!
