We are very excited to officially announce a brand new and unique partnership between Nordoff Robbins and the Lord Leonard & Lady Estelle Wolfson Foundation.

Launching today, the Foundation are now our key partner in greater London for our work in special schools. Their incredible donation of £50,000 will fund the partnership for a year, and will enable us to build and grow our service provision to children with Special Educational Needs (SEN) in Greater London in 2016.

We know the significant difference music therapy makes to children with SEN and through this partnership we can reach more of those children who need our support. Crucially, the money has enabled us to bring down our extensive waiting list of schools who need a music therapist but cannot afford to fund one in full, and enables some schools that can currently only afford half a day of music therapy to now access a full day.

As of today, thanks to the funding from the Lord Leonard & Lady Estelle Wolfson Foundation we have a Nordoff Robbins Music Therapist working in 9 schools (with a tenth in the pipeline) across Greater London delivering our life-changing work to schools who otherwise would have been unable to access out services.

Over the year, this funding will be responsible for enabling us to deliver 234 music therapy sessions per school and over 2,200 additional music therapy sessions and we hope to build on this moving forward following a successful year.

Not only are we thrilled to be extending our service delivery, but we are also very proud to be working with a Foundation whose passion lies in supporting projects calculated to promote the advancement of research and education for the public benefit in preventative medicine or surgery and research. We are very excited about the opportunities that this partnership will offer our own Research team in looking at the effects and benefit of music therapy on children with a wide range of Special Education Needs. This partnership will help to inform our work greatly, and will enable us to deepen our own understanding of what music therapy can achieve with a wide range of children, living with different challenges.

Our CEO Julie Whelan says, “All of us at Nordoff Robbins are truly grateful to the Lord Leonard and Lady Estelle Wolfson Foundation for their generosity. Today sees the launch of this new, key partnership which signals vital and significant progress for our organisation in allowing us to extend the reach of our services, and deliver music therapy to more children with Special Educational Needs across London.

The Lord Leonard and Lady Estelle Wolfson Foundation have achieved so much through supporting organisations and projects that promote the advancement of research for the public benefit. We are therefore delighted that this partnership will not only ensure that music therapy services reach more children across London, but that through these funded projects, we will be able to commit to developing further our leading research into the impact and benefit of music therapy for children with special educational needs. We are absolutely thrilled with this partnership, and look forward to being able to change even more lives through music.”

We thank the Lord Leonard & Lady Estelle Wolfson Foundation for this opportunity, and we look forward to a very positive and successful year in partnership.
