Marie’s story
Marie lives with dementia in a care home in the North of England. Music therapy helps to bring her joy and unlock precious memories.
Both Nordoff and Robbins and LW Theatres believe in the power of music to inspire, connect, and transform lives – both on stage, in music therapy and beyond. Music therapy is not a ‘nice-to-have’, it’s essential and life-changing for so many people. Just like it was for six-year-old Emmie, who you can read more about below.
Our powerful partnership with LW Theatres comes at a critical time. We could nearly fill all of their theatres twice over with the people we supported with music therapy in the last year alone. But the demand for music therapy is increasing rapidly, and so are the costs of running our services.
We receive no government funding to back us, which is why we urgently need your support. Donate today and help us reach more people, just like Emmie, who desperately need our help.
Emmie is six years old and has Down’s syndrome. When she was just four months old, she had to have major heart surgery to save her life. Her earliest years were full of hospital visits and it was hard for Emmie to just be a child.
Emmie developed severe separation anxiety when she was away from her parents. But music therapy changed Emmie into “a totally different child”. Through music Emmie finally felt heard.
Last year alone we transformed the lives of almost 17,000 people through music therapy. And with your support we can reach even more people, just like Emmie, who desperately need our help.

We’re the UK’s largest music therapy charity, with a unique approach shaped by more than 60 years of practice. We use music therapy to support people across the UK, train future music therapists, and carry out research to advance and share our approach.
Our work can be transformative, from an adult with dementia reconnecting with their family, helping an autistic child communicate and connect with another person, to a teenager going through mental health challenges using music to help them get through each day.
We witness the power of music every day, which is why we’re working hard to make sure high-quality music therapy is a key part of health and social care services.

LW Theatres are dedicated to staging the extraordinary. Their partnership with us puts music therapy centre stage, where the magic of live theatre and life-changing music meet.
Musical theatre and performance are deeply linked to music therapy through their shared use of music as a powerful tool for emotional expression, communication, and transformation.
Keep an eye out for further news about our partnership both online and in LW Theatres. You might spot us at the Adelphi Theatre, Cambridge Theatre, Gillian Lynne Theatre, His Majesty’s Theatre, London Palladium and Theatre Royal Drury Lane.
