This introductory four-week evening course at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester will help you explore music therapy through the Nordoff Robbins person-centred approach. You’ll gain an understanding of how music therapy works today, and how the practice has developed over the last half-century. Exploring your own relationship with music along the way, you’ll discover the key elements of how music therapy works and can help in a range of settings.

The MMT is a two-year, masters-level programme. Graduating from the course will qualify you to register as a music therapist.
Our PhD programme allows seasoned practitioners to extend their learning through groundbreaking practice-based research.
Together with delivery and education, research is one of the three central pillars of our work. Our research allows us to properly examine our practice. It highlights opportunities that might otherwise go unnoticed. It helps us train our students more effectively. Ultimately, it gives us the knowledge we need to evolve our approach in a way that makes it more impactful for the people we support.
