We’re delighted to announce that Jason Iley MBE will be the recipient of the 2024 Music Industry Trust Awards. The Chairman and CEO of Sony Music for UK and Ireland will receive the award in recognition of his dedication to the music industry and contribution to the UK’s musical and cultural landscape.
About the Music Industry Trust Award
The Music Industry Trusts Award has been going since 1992 and has been a key event in the music industry calendar ever since! Each year the committee use their combined expertise to choose an outstanding individual to honor with the award.
The award will be presented to Iley on Monday 4 November 2024 at The Grosvenor House Hotel on London’s Park Lane. This special, inspirational event brings together hundreds of names from across the business. This year they’ll all be joining together to celebrate Iley’s achievement, whilst raising vital funds for us as well as for The Brit Trust. We’re so grateful for their support every year.
Celebrating Jason Iley MBE
A key player in the music industry for thirty years, Iley has worked with some of the biggest names in the business whilst also being a big supporter of new and emerging artists.
Iley has been the Chairman at Sony Music UK for 10 years now, which makes him the longest-serving Chairman in the history of the company. During his impressive tenure, he’s led major acquisitions including Ministry of Sound Records in 2016 and oversees a roster with homegrown artists such as Calvin Harris, Paloma Faith, Mark Ronson, George Ezra, Robbie Williams, Rag’n’Bone Man and breakthrough artists Central Cee and Myles Smith. His roster also includes internationally signed stars like Beyoncé, Adele, Harry Styles, Miley Cyrus, SZA, P!NK and Foo Fighters.
But it’s not just chart success that’s flourished under Iley’s leadership. He’s championed company initiatives to support a new generation of executives in the business. This includes the development of a female-focused A&R Academy, and a Childcare Support Scheme which looks to increase the proportion of women taking up senior roles. Since 2020, Iley has overseen the UK section of Sony Music’s award-winning Social Justice Fund, which supports anti-racist initiatives in Britain. The company has awarded £2.2million worth of grants to 22 charity partners who invest in access to music education, backing criminal justice reform and supporting grassroots communities.
Iley, who was also the Chairman of the BRITs Committee from 2017 to 2019, was awarded an MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List for his contributions to music and charity.
Iley joins a cohort of prestigious previous Music Industry Trusts Award winners including Annie Lennox OBE, Kylie Minogue, Rob Stringer CBE, Emma Banks, Sir Elton John and Bernie Taupin, Sir Lucian Grainge, Michael Eavis CBE, Pete Tong MBE, and Roger Daltrey CBE, Jamal Edwards MBE, and last year’s recipient, live music agent Lucy Dickins.
You can find out more about Iley’s incredible career, spanning three decades, on the Music Industry Trusts Award website.
