Welcoming our new music ambassador, Mark King

Welcoming our new music ambassador, Mark King

We’re delighted to welcome our new music ambassador, the iconic bassist and vocalist of Level 42, Mark King.

Mark King is the bassist, vocalist, and a founder member of Level 42.

To date Mark and the band have released 14 studio albums, seven live albums, the Sirens’ EP, and six compilation albums, had 18 top 40 singles, including Lessons in Love, Something About You, Leaving Me Now, Running in the Family, and Hot Water, sold out Wembley Arena for a total of 21 nights and sold in excess of 35 million albums
worldwide.

In short they have proven to be one of the most successful British bands of the 1980s, and continue to tour in 2025.

Mark King said: “Music to me is communication. A way that we can connect to each other that transcends language, that can take us to the highest of highs and
share our burden at the hardest of times too. To borrow from Nietzsche: ‘Without music, life would be a mistake’.

“The work that Nordoff and Robbins undertakes in helping to communicate with children and adults of all ages is simply essential, and I for one am very happy to be able to help in any way I can to help this vital charity in it’s work.”

We’re so grateful for the support Mark has given us over many years. In the summer of 2023 he joined a music therapy session at Mountbatten Hospice with Ray, whose songwriting sessions with music therapist Fraser helped him deal with his diagnosis of incurable stomach cancer. Click here to watch a video of Mark, Ray and Fraser jamming on one of Ray’s own songs.

We were delighted to honour Mark at the 2023 O2 Silver Clef Awards, where he received the Icon Award. We’re looking forward to welcoming him at this year’s award ceremony, our largest fundraising event of the year, where his support will help us to keep delivering music therapy sessions to those who need it most.
