Patsy’s Story For Patsy, who has autism spectrum disorder, music therapy has helped her find news ways to communicate and express herself without words. Patsy is 7–years–old, and has a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder, which affects her communication, social interaction and verbal development. She is home schooled and is on a therapy programme due to her very complex needs – her care is 24 hours a day, seven days a week. And music therapy has been integral in Patsy’s development. Her mum Kath said: “Her speech became clearer and moreover, she showed that she wanted to interact. It has helped her address her difficulties with communication and participation, unlocking creativity and expression, as well as developing her physical, mental, emotional and social wellbeing. At Nordoff Robbins, Patsy didn’t need words to have a voice.”
