ReCoCo (Recovery College Collective)
Music can be a solace, a refuge, a support, a means of expression, a form of communication, a way to connect, a source of joy or happiness. It’s accessible, immediate and almost universal.
ReCoCo
ReCoCo is an independent, peer-led mental health charity. The NHS and others commission the charity to deliver groups, courses, activities, engagement work, training and research relating to mental health. People with direct lived experience guide and deliver everything that ReCoCo does.
We first collaborated with ReCoCo in 2017. Through music therapy sessions, people supported by ReCoCo have been able to connect with each other over a shared interest. Importantly, they are able to enjoy themselves.
Music is hugely important in a lot of people’s lives, as a direct link to their emotions.
People of all life circumstances at ReCoCo have come together to perform, supported by a Nordoff and Robbins music therapist. They can collaborate and practice, both with each other and in front of an audience. The team at ReCoCo have spoken of the power of these performances. They said, “when considering the progress they’ve made both as individuals and as a group, it’s impossible not to feel moved”.

We produced this story in partnership with ReCoCo.
