Masters of Music Therapy (MMT) pre-application reading list

Preparing for your audition and interview

Prospective students often ask us what they should read to learn about the Nordoff and Robbins approach to music therapy and prepare for their audition and interview.

We don’t expect you to have an in-depth theoretical understanding of music therapy at this stage. It’s far more important for you to have practical experience of making music with people who have some form of special need.

We will, though, expect you to have thought about what music therapy can offer and about your own suitability for such work. To be able to reflect on these matters in an informed way at the interview, a bit of reading will be beneficial.

We will ask you about your reading, but not in a way that’s intended to catch you out. Our aim is to have a conversation that will help us understand your level of knowledge and your capacity for critical thinking.
