Solace
Music therapy helps us to ease our stress and feel happy when we play
Client at Solace
Solace is a charity based in Leeds. It provides therapeutic support to refugees and asylum seekers, including talking therapy and group support. The service also liaises with other agencies and organisations to help meet the often highly complex needs of people fleeing persecution.
Our partnership with Solace began in 2021. Music therapy is provided either one-to-one or in group sessions, supporting clients in the way that works best for them.
Music therapy complements other forms of therapeutic support offered by Solace. It also serves as a source of ongoing support after clients come to the end of their work with the charity. Our sessions have provided a space for creativity, as well as the chance to try something new. Clients have spoken of music as a mood-booster and an outlet for stress – something different to break up the week.
One client was familiar with other forms of therapy, but explained that music therapy offered opportunity to try something new. It was through one-to-one sessions with our music therapist Seb that they were able to fulfil their dream of playing the keyboard.
The ethos and values of Solace and Nordoff and Robbins align nicely. It’s fantastic to be able to offer this sort of therapy to our clients
