Gareth Southgate announced as this year’s recipient of the 2022 Legends of Football award

Legends of Football, in aid of Nordoff Robbins Music Therapy, is to induct England manager Gareth Southgate into its Hall of Fame later this year as the star-studded event returns to London’s Grosvenor House on 3rd October 2022.

The Legends of Football event is an annual charity fundraising night, supported by the Premier League, in aid of Nordoff Robbins.

The event has raised a staggering £8.5 million for Nordoff Robbins to date since 1997 when John Charles CBE was the first recipient. After a two year break due to the pandemic, the evening which Sir Alex Ferguson described as “The best night in the football social calendar” returns once again.

This event has enjoyed 20 years celebrating the achievements and careers of some of the greatest footballers and managers in the beautiful game. Since 1996, legends such as John Charles, Sir Stanley Matthews, Brian Clough, Sir Bobby Robson, Sir Alex Ferguson, Kenny Dalglish, Alan Shearer and Eric Cantona, to name a few, have received this prestigious award. In recent years the dinner has also paid tribute to Jose Mourinho, Ryan Giggs as well as the man widely regarded as the greatest player of all time – Pele. To mark our 20th anniversary, global footballing icon David Beckham was our recipient. In 2016, we celebrated 25 seasons of the Premier League, honouring a special group of players who have scored 100 Premier League goal. In 2017 we honoured the achievements of Liverpool and England hero Steven Gerrard and in 2018, Chelsea manager and legend Frank Lampard. 2019 saw Arsène Wenger inducted into the Legends of Football hall of fame following a trophy laden career as Arsenal manager.
