Scott’s story
Music can be a lifeline to everyone, connecting them to themselves and to others.
Scott has experienced financial hardship and has been attending music therapy sessions with Andy at a local support centre. Sessions with Andy offer Scott the opportunity to socialise, express himself, and feel a sense of purpose.
Scott is a guitarist and singer-songwriter who can also improvise songs on the spur of the moment. In music therapy, he is not only able to see his songs fully realised live, but also to record and produce his work.
While his sessions with Andy are one-on-one, that doesn’t stop him from extending the benefits to other people at the centre.
Scott often plays with me out in the main area where other support centre clients congregate, and he attracts their attention and approval, with dancing and applause.

Music therapy provides a space for Scott to use his natural talent and grow his confidence. During sessions, he works towards goals such as recording projects and informal performances.
Scott adds, “Music helps me channel my energy into something positive. It stops me being a hooligan.”
