Whether you’re looking to learn more about music therapy or the Nordoff Robbins approach, our Short Courses are a great place to start

Upcoming Courses

Throughout the year we run a range of short courses across the country, with differing course lengths.

Below are details of our introductory courses and musical improvisation courses for all who are interested, and our summer school for those already trained as music therapists.

What is music therapy? A brief introduction to the Nordoff Robbins approach

This single session introduction to the ideas and practice of Nordoff Robbins music therapy will be presented by experienced music therapists. It will include information, examples of music therapy in action and practical activities. The course is open to anyone interested in music therapy, no previous experience is necessary.

An Extended Introduction to Nordoff Robbins Music Therapy

This six week evening course is run by experienced Nordoff Robbins music therapists. It includes information about music therapy and the Nordoff Robbins approach, examples of music therapy in action, and practical music making. The course is open to anyone interested in music therapy, catering equally for people with no previous knowledge and for those with experience in related fields.

Musical Improvisation

A four week evening course exploring musical improvisation and the fundamentals of music and interaction. The course is active and practical – we will be making music together most of the time! We aim to develop your awareness, freedom and technique in musical improvisation. The course is suitable for people with all levels and types of musical experience, from experienced musicians to those with little or no previous experience.

Summer School - Introduction to Nordoff Robbins Music Therapy

The Nordoff Robbins Summer School is for professional music therapists who wish to engage with key aspects of the Nordoff Robbins approach to music therapy and incorporate these into their music therapy work. The School includes workshops focussing on musical techniques and awareness, seminars and opportunities to share your own work. There is a strong emphasis on practical music making, and it is an international event, welcoming music therapists from around the world.
