British Association for Music Therapy : provides information for the public and supports the highest standards of training, practice and research in music therapy. Membership is open to qualified music therapists; Associate Membership is open to individuals and institutions/organisations who are interested in furthering their understanding of music therapy. 

Health Professions Council : the statutory regulatory organisation for UK music therapists. Music therapy has been a registered profession in the UK since 1999. Use the online register to check the status of music therapists.

Sound Sense : the UK professional association promoting community music and supporting community musicians

Culture and Wellbeing : using the arts to improve the nation’s health

London Arts in Health Forum : develops the role of culture in wellbeing; promotes and supports arts in health activity across London and nationally

International organisations 

International Index of Music Therapy Organisations (IIMTO): is an online mailing directory of music therapy organisations, such as associations and training institutions, across the world.  IIMTO is provided (in Microsoft Office Excel format) free of charge by Nordoff Robbins. 

World Federation of Music Therapy : promotes music therapy worldwide.

European Music Therapy Confederation : a confederation of professional music therapy associations that acts as a forum for exchange between music therapists in Europe. It contains links to the principal music therapy organisations in all countries in the European Union.

www.musictherapyworld.de : an international online resource containing articles, conference reports and other information about the music therapy profession (no longer being updated).

American Music Therapy Association : advances public awareness of the benefits of music therapy and increases access to quality music therapy services.

Raukatauri Music Therapy Centre, New Zealand. : The Nordoff Robbins approach is the main approach used at the Centre.

Professional journals 

British Journal of Music Therapy : published biannually in the UK by the British Society of Music Therapy and the Association of Professional Music Therapists.

The Journal of Music Therapy : published quarterly by the American Music Therapy Association.

Music Therapy Perspectives : published biannually by the American Music Therapy Association.

Nordic Journal of Music Therapy : published biannually by the Grieg Academy Music Therapy Research Centre (University of Bergen). It covers music therapy in Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway Sweden, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania.

VOICES: A World Forum for Music Therapy : online music therapy journal published three times a year in affiliation with the Nordic Journal of Music Therapy.

APPROACHES: Music Therapy & Special Music Education : online journal dedicated to music therapy and special music education. The official languages are Greek and English. It is published biannually and accessible online free of charge.

The Arts in Psychotherapy : an international journal for professionals in the fields of mental health and education, published 5 times a year, covering the theory and practice of art, dance/movement, drama, music, and poetry psychotherapies and creative arts therapies.

International Journal of Community Music : publishes research articles, practical discussions, timely reviews, readers' notes and special issues concerning all aspects of Community Music. Available in print and electronic formats.

Music and Arts in Action: an online journal, published two to three times a year, that takes a wide, holistic approach in researching the dynamic role of music and the arts in social life and cultural experience .

Music Therapy Charity : founded in 1969 to support music therapists in the UK. Its principal function is to raise money to fund research into music therapy.

MusicSpace : founded in 1989 and provides music therapy through four regional branches: Bristol, Nottingham, Hampshire and London.

Music as Therapy : founded in 1995 to help disadvantaged children and adults in Romania. Aims to develop and use music therapy as a means to relieve those living in conditions of need, hardship or distress, suffering from mental or physical disability and the effects of poverty or sickness.

Jessie's Fund : provides music therapy in children's hospices and supports the establishment of posts in UK children's hospices nationwide.

North Yorkshire Music Therapy Centre : provides a mobile music therapy service to schools, hospitals and day centres in North Yorkshire and promotes knowledge of music therapy in the region.

Cornwall Music Therapy Trust : established in August 2006 to oversee and fund the development and research of music therapy in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.

Belltree Music Therapy Centre : offers music therapy to people of all ages across Brighton and Hove and Sussex counties.

Sound Waves South West : established in 2000, providing music therapy in Devon and Cornwall.
