Inez’s story
For Inez, most of life is impossible for her to integrate into. With music it’s different. I don’t think I can imagine a world where Inez has been deprived of this. It has been the most magical, incredible thing that she has ever experienced.
Julian, Inez’s dad
Inez was born with a brain tumour and, as a consequence, was having about 100 seizures a day. She had an operation to remove the tumour when she was one year old, but the damage caused by either the tumour, the seizures or the operation left her growing up with no speech or language.
Her dad Julian found Nordoff and Robbins after hearing about music therapy on the radio.
“Music therapy is really the only thing that helps her. It is something that she is clearly able to participate in. She understands that the instruments and the music are the means of communication. And it’s not any music, she knows it’s specific to her.” says Julian.
When Inez started having sessions she was mesmerised from the start.
“Her eyes light up and she smiles,” says Inez’s mum, Julia. “And she’s in a different world, and is communicating.”
